It is obvious that it was a witch-hunt for the benefit of some public prosecutor who wanted to carry the trophy home, having participated in bringing down one of the greatest athletes of our time-lance Armstrong. It was obvious that the government was not able to do so and its announcements that the federal investigation of the cyclist had collapsed mentioned. Lance Armstrong was being investigated for the use of performance enhancing drugs in his cycling career although this was treated as if it was a criminal offence given the amount of time and money that was put into it and the fact that it was being pursued by the criminal department rather than the proper bodies which are supposed to do so.
Lance Armstrong was lucky, unlike Barry bonds and roger Clemens. While the use of performance enhancing drugs is bad regardless of the sport, the motivation behind the witch-hunting of a famous athlete is also bad. There is the issue of it being made an international public spectacle- and perhaps the team that nailed him getting all the glory. There is nothing in this brief that implies that Lance Armstrong should not be investigated but doing so for all the reason is a big issue that needs to be addressed. Obviously, if this athlete broke the rules of the competition, action needs to be taken against him just like any other athlete. Either way, if he was using performance enhancing drugs he would not have won the titles he had won without being noticed. An interesting fact of users of performance enhancing drugs is that they never get out of mediocrity. Somehow, they remain mediocre athletes no matter how much drugs they make use of and the years they put in. this is obviously because of the fact that they never want to put in any real effort in exercising.
Those matters aside, if we assume that these athletes and others were making use of performance enhancing drugs and have been lying to the world for all those years, why is it such a big issue, such that the federal government is part of it? Why is it that the movement is using all the machinery at its disposal to investigate a specific athlete? It was expected that in the event of lance Armstrong being found guilty of using performance enhancing drugs in his career, it would give the government a good look in the eyes of the people. Even the campaigns against steroids at the time were just a way to mask whatever it is the government was really after. The use of government money to witch-hunt a specific athlete was a big blunder and it was a good thing that it fell flat on its face.
