Among the steroids stories that are continuing to shock the world today are those of children under the age of 18 using steroids. Worse off, some of them are given steroids by their parents. James Gahan gave steroids to his child of 12 years apparently to increase his athletic prowess. It is the classic case of a parent living his life through his child. A child of twelve could not have developed his athletic prowess to the extent of wanting to use steroids and the only answer to his use of steroids is being given by his parents. After he had taken steroids too far and after he was sentenced and served his time, the James was available to tell his story. His son, Corey was a speed skater who wanted to get to the Olympic Games if possible. Telling his dreams with his father was something he thought as normal but is father took his dreams and aspirations too far by giving him steroid shots from the time he was twelve. He was also given shorts of human growth hormones to give him the edge he needed over his colleagues in school. If this is not the classic case of a parent living a dream through his child, then I do not know what is. While the use of steroids can bring about many positive results, the father certainly did not want to know about the negative repercussions on the health of his son when he was giving him steroids. Eventually, James was caught and the story was all over the national news. Corey; who had been performing well in speed skating was suspended and he later testified against his father for this manipulation. Corey’s testimony put his father in jail for six years and he has finished his sentence although he still has a community service sentence that is part of the sentence. At the moment he speaks against the use of steroids and advices parents and their children against the use of steroids. He speaks about the dangers of steroids and what he did to his family. He has definitely experienced first hand the dangerous side of steroids and is not living on medication that helps him everyday. He confesses that he had a bad mentality about steroids; he would never accept defeat and he did not see the reason why his son should not win at speed skating at all costs. He mentions that this mentality cost him six years of his life and his health and is now campaigning against the use of steroids among young people and their parents. He is still estranged from his son, who still would not talk to him although he is positive that everything will change.
