Robert J. McCann said it was not real him and something else, the steroids which he has been using for some time, had taken control over him as he attacked his girlfriend which nearly killed her. McCann, aged 28 and an athlete of mixed martial arts, is facing 11 charges against him as he pulled a gun on her girlfriend and also attacked her when she was trying to escape from him. It all took place in a remote site location of West Ville. At first the fight took place in the car and then when they reached their apartment again it happened. Then they both went to Plattsburgh for staying overnight and the next day woman was released by him and after two days he was also arrested in his home at Rooseveltown road. All this happened on October 5th.
On 6th of October he was helped by his friends to go to a house at St. Regis Mohawk Reservation for the hiding purpose. On 7th October he called the police with another name asking whether some warrants were issued on his name and answer was negative and they said that they just wanted to talk to him. He also called her girlfriend but got no answer from her as well. On 8th October he was expecting the police and was eventually taken into custody.
In the custody he gave a detailed interview. He was being charged for kidnapping, attempt for a murder, assaulting and raping a 24 year old woman whose name has not been told. Interview was conducted by Joseph Tatro, who is senior investigation officer at State Police Office, and Sgt. Al Duquette, who is the detective with St. Lawrence County and is also the previous Martial Arts instructor of McCann.
As the formal investigations were about to start McCann said that he has got some problems with steroids and they are creating severe effects on his moods and he gets very angry on very little and minor things. He started by saying that at first when he showed the gun to the girl she tried to run away but he grabbed her and applied a martial art move on her to get her injured. He said it was something else (steroids) which were controlling his mind. Then they went to his Brushton apartment for changing clothes and were seen by a neighbor. There they again fought and he applied same move on her. They moved to Plattsburg and from there the woman was allowed to drive back. He said he was sorry for all that as he was not in his senses and his senses were controlled by the steroids and he need help in overcoming them.
