Mariusz Bak, a polish bodybuilder and former Mr North Ireland contestant has admitted importing raw steroids of almost two kilos. This 3o year old guy was running a gym in Dungannon at the arresting time in 2010.
According to UK Borders Agency and Customs and Excise, they have seized bodybuilding powders of 1.7kilos at the Heathrow Airport. The raw steroids were sent from China and were destined to Bak’s home address. Bak moved to North Ireland six years ago. According to the prosecuting Lawyer Rober Steer, a metal press was intercepted which is being capable of making thousands of tablets a day with printed labels of 13,000. Bak admitted the import of raw steroid but claimed that it was going to be used for making protein tablets as a body supplement. Along with purchase receipt of 1,086 glass vials, a delivery of steroid related paper was also found on searching Bak’s home. The total estimated figure for these raw steroids was as much as £42,000. Police has found the orders were made and related information has been found in Bak’s mobile and computer. During the arrest after two months, Bak ordered more steroids adding the fact that he was working hard and with industrious vision.
Bak pleaded guilty of being importing class C steroids and had the intention of supplying it in front of court. The defense lawyer, QC James Gallagher, Bak was a competitor of bodybuilding and the sellings he made were to his limited circle of friends. QC James tried to prove that it wasn’t a profitable business but legal to his own and he had the personal right to import and possess them. After all the proceedings, the Omagh Crown Court has suspended Bak for two years jail term. The judge Geoffrey Miller QC has described the whole matter as “well planned and well organized” and added the fact that Bak didn’t understand the potential risks for being involved in the steroid supply and possessing no legal license.
The Assistant Director UK Border Agency Criminal and Financial Investigation, Malcolm Bragg is declaring it a severe type of crime in UK and the sentence shows it all. UK government and the police are very serious towards illicit drug related crimes and the court has sentenced the culprits with fines and imprisonment. The Border agency is working on stopping the illegal import of these drugs and bringing the responsible individuals in front of the court.
To avoid the illicit drug trafficking countries should co-operate in this matter and must try to stop drug related conspiracies. There should to counseling of individuals who are not being aware of the potential risks and harms they’re having for being into such business.
