Cris Cyborg, a popular person in the world of Mixed Marshall Arts fights, has been banned and fined $2500 by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC). The title of Strikeforce It is done so because of her positive result for a substance which is banned. Substance found in her is Stanozolol, an anabolic steroid, after her victorious bout against Hiroko Yamanaka at Strikeforce on December 17, 2011.She won the match but the decision is reversed from win to no decision under the rule number 368. It was her eleventh consecutive win after a layoff of about eighteen months.
Cristiane Justino Venancio Santos is a Brazilian and was born on July 9, 1985. She is former Strikeforce women’s featherweight Champion. She now lives in the United States in San Diego where she teaches and train at the Arena. She has said on her website that she has unknowingly used this substance as she was told that it is not a prohibited drug and she used it for losing her weight for the fight. She mentioned on her website that she have not used it intentionally to gain edge over other players rather it is an unintentional act. But on the other hand George Dodd, Executive Officer of California State Athletic Commission (CSAC), says that their main aim is the safety and health of fighters and the usage any banned substance is intolerable because it not only risk the users themselves but also those who come in fight with players under the effect of these drugs. She has been banned for unknown period of time but according to some sources duration of ban could be up to one year starting from December 16, 2011. Urine sample of Cyborg was taken on 16th December, 2011 and it was forwarded to World Anti Doping Agency facility at University of California and then it was proved to positive with Anabolic steroids.
Cyborg was allowed to appeal against this ban but initially she thought of not doing so but now she has appealed against the ban according to Sports Illustrated reports. Her manager has began the proceeding by appealing to Chief Executive of CSAC, George Dodd to hold a hearing on April 9th, 2012 and the place has not yet been finalized. Cyborg has apologized to Strikeforce, Zuffa organization, Hiroko Yamanaka and her fans. She says she is blamed for any substance present in her body and there is no excuse for that. Despite of her regrets she still considers her innocent as she says she has taken that substance as part of her diet program and she was assured that this substance is not on the list of prohibited items for athletes and sports persons.
